Developmental English at Highline

As a participant in the Achieving the Dream initiative, we received national recognition for our efforts to assist at-risk students. In keeping with AtD's "promising practices" for bolstering student retention, we are committed to improving student success rates through innovative teaching practices and curriculum design.  This includes:

  • high challenge, high support assignments
  • integrative and accelerated learning opportunities
  • orientation/advising events specifically geared toward students transitioning to college
  • partnership with Highline's ESL department to better support English language-learners
  • promotion of study skills and motivation
  • educational/career planning and advising
